New Matilda is an Australian website of news, analysis and satire. We have been publishing intelligent coverage of Australian politics, business, civil society, international affairs, media and culture since 2004.
We run commentary and analysis of current events as well as breaking news and investigative journalism. Rather than duplicating stories and perspectives readily available in other media outlets, we bring our readers new ideas and information. By filling in the gaps, New Matilda makes an important contribution to public debate.
We believe that robust media is fundamental to a healthy democracy and accordingly New Matilda is fiercely independent with no affiliation to any political party, lobby group or other media organisation. We are largely funded by reader donations and subscriptions.
New Matilda has published the work of over 1000 Australian writers since 2004. We've made space for established writers and fostered new names. They are journalists, current and former politicians, lawyers, critical and creative thinkers, bloggers, policy-wonks and satirists. Unsolicited submissions are welcome. Click here for information.
